2-6-0 Number 96 is another locomotive acquired by the Ohio Central with a Steamtown past. Originally built for the Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada as Number 1024, she was renumbered 926, then renumbered 96 through corporate merger into the Canadian National Railway Company in 1923. Built in 1910, the mogul was eventually purchased by F. Nelson Blount for his Steamtown operation. It became a source of parts for its Steamtown sister #89 now owned by the Strasburg Railroad. Steamtown sold the locomotive to Horst Muller at auction in the mid-eighties and it and OHCR #1551 left Steamtown together for their new homes. Traveling from Steamtown to Buffalo, NY together, they seperated with #96 going to Preston (Cambridge), Ontario and #1551 going to Youngstown, OH. How strange the twist and turns in the steam society, for in 1994, Jerry Jacobson bought #96 and reunited her with her Canadian sister.
